Racism is the belief that there are qualities assumed to be essential or innate to one group of people based upon their race and that those qualities distinguish that race to be inferior or superior to another race (or races). The concept of race is a relatively new idea in human history. The first time that the classification of humans based upon their skin color appeared in the scientific literature in 1758 when European scientist, Carolus Linneaus,  published a classification system in System Naturale.
