OMOTENASHI

The Japanese Spirit of Hospitality and ORIGAMI
The culture of omotenashi (the Japanese spirit of hospitality) has been attracting worldwide attention in recent years. The wrapping culture, which is the immediate origin of origami, was created from the mind of this omotenashi.
Giving a gift or money to someone after wrapping it nicely using beautiful paper or cloth is one of the Japenese people’s customs and it is still upheld in modern times. For example, most people in Japan don’t rip the wrapping paper off a gift but unwrap it carefully so that it is not damaged. They then don’t throw it away in a bin but fold it nearly and keep it for
another time. This expresses their sincere feeling for the gift-giver. Also, at the same time of showing the mind of omotenashi, it reflects the ideal Japanese lifestyle of simplicity and frugality.

OMOTENASHI
