What is Sisterhood Saturday?

Sisterhood Saturday is an interactive women’s ministry led by Unity’s Interfaith minister Rev. Tami Johns. With a spiritual message, music, prayer, reflection, and meaningful dialogue, we invite women of all ages to a sacred space of connection, spiritual growth and renewal.

On the first Saturday of each month, we invite women of all ages to explore your spirituality, express your authentic self, and feel the power of being truly seen. This circle of women holds space for one another. We recommend bringing a journal to capture insights, inspiration, and moments of self-discovery.

July Sisterhood Saturday Topic: Daring Greatly by Brene’ Brown

This month’s Sisterhood Saturday discussion will focus on Brené Brown’s concept of vulnerability from her book Daring Greatly, using Theodore Roosevelt’s “Man (woman) in the Arena” quote as the foundation.

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; . . . who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly.”—Theodore Roosevelt

Being in the arena means showing up in life with courage, even when there is risk, fear, criticism, or failure. Through personal reflection on how Rev. Tami once saw life’s arena as a place of defeat, shame, and repeated struggle, but after reading Daring Greatly, she began to understand the arena differently: not as a place where she was destined to lose, but as a place where she could be seen, live fully, and stop playing small. The discussion will focus on what vulnerability means, how to stop listening to the critics, and turn to where you are being called to step into the arena with courage and purpose. Bring a friend and a journal and expect a wonderful Saturday morning surrounded by women of all ages exploring spiritual growth from many different avenues.
