August Sisterhood Saturday Topic: The Wild Woman & Ancestors

This month’s Sisterhood Saturday discussion will focus the concept of The Wild Woman, based on the work of Clarissa Pinkola-Estes in her book, Women Who Run With The Wolves:

Within every woman there lives a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. She is the Wild Woman, who represents the instinctual nature of women. But she is an endangered species. For though the gifts of wildish nature belong to us at birth, society’s attempt to “civilize” us into rigid roles has muffled the deep, life-giving messages of our own souls.

Women Who Run with the Wolves unfolds rich intercultural myths, fairy tales, folk tales, and stories, many from her own traditions, in order to help women reconnect with the fierce, healthy, visionary attributes of this instinctual nature. Through the stories and commentaries in this remarkable book, we retrieve, examine, love, and understand the Wild Woman, and hold her against our deep psyches as one who is both magic and medicine.

Message from Rev. Tami Johns

Together, we will focus on the Wild Woman archetype and ancestors. We’ll construct an ancestor altar for this sacred gathering, so I am asking that you please bring a picture of a female ancestor who has shaped your life. This ancestor need not be by blood; it can be by spirit. Additionally, you can bring an heirloom or something that represents that person.

We will have a sacred ceremony to honor the women who came before us and discuss the concept of the Wild Woman, I hope to see you there as we continue to grow this ministry.

What to bring and what to wear to the Wild Woman Sisterhood Saturday

  • Think of yourself as a wild woman, or a time when you felt wild. What image comes to mind? For this gathering, feel free to dress like that wild woman.
  • A picture of the female ancestor who has shaped your life or an heirloom or something that represents that person
  • Bring your journal to capture insights
  • Bring your Wild Woman friends

Find Your New Circle of Sisterhood

Sisterhood Saturday is an interactive women’s ministry led by Unity’s Interfaith minister Rev. Tami Johns. With a spiritual message, music, prayer, reflection, and meaningful dialogue, we invite women of all ages to a sacred space of connection, spiritual growth and renewal.

For generations, women have gathered with their grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and friends to navigate life’s joys and seasons together. Let’s carry on that tradition! Come as you are. Bring the women in your life—or come to find your new circle of sisterhood.

If you’d like to offer feedback or submit a testimonial of your Sisterhood Saturday experience to help spread the word about this ministry, please email Tami.johns@unitytriangle.org.
