What Is Affirmative Prayer?

Affirmative prayer is the highest form of creative thought. It involves releasing counterproductive, negative thoughts and affirming that God is present in the midst of every circumstance. Affirmative prayer reflects the certainty that we are each being led and guided to our highest good despite any temporary appearances.

We do not pray to change God; we pray to change ourselves by connecting with God and allowing God to be expressed through us. We pray to realize the highest truth we can comprehend at that moment.

The Prayer Chaplain Program

One of the most powerful and personal ways Unity of the Triangle serves the spiritual needs of its congregants. Our prayer chaplains provide congregants confidential, one-on-one, affirmative prayer after Sunday services and make prayer support calls to members once a month. Prayer chaplains are trained, have their own deeply committed prayer practices, and are dedicated to practicing Unity principles. Prayer chaplains are not ordained, nor do they minister to or counsel the community at large as do ministers or hospital chaplains.

Prayer chaplains:

  • Create and hold sacred space with you during prayer.
  • Listen to your prayer requests with love and empathy.
  • Pray from the heart.
  • Honor the sacred trust that is created when praying with another.
  • Hold all that is shared in the strictest confidence.

Are you interested in becoming a prayer chaplain?

Serving as a volunteer prayer chaplain involves a deep level of commitment, an openness to create heart connections with others, and a willingness to experience personal and spiritual growth and transformation. Completing the training and serving as a prayer chaplain is transformational work. We invite you to consider whether becoming a prayer chaplain is yours to do.

To learn more about training and dates, pick up the program brochure on the prayer box table in the church lobby or download it here. You may also email Rev. Meemie Lohmueller, Pastoral Care Minister, or call her at 919-832-8324, Ext. 110.

The Extended Care Team is made up of former prayer chaplains who have received special training in compassionate listening and working with congregants who are hospitalized or convalescing at home. These volunteers hold individuals in prayer and may continue supporting them through a lengthy illness or the end of life. Team members are not spiritual or professional counselors or caretakers. If you are in need, please send Rev. Meemie a confidential care request form or call her at 919-832-8324, Ext. 110.

The Practice of Sacred Prayer

The Sacred Prayer Circle

A prayer team whose members dedicate part of their private daily prayers to the requests placed each week in the prayer box. They receive weekly emails listing those in need of prayer by first names only, without any description of their circumstances, and hold them in pure love. On the first Sunday of every month, the Sacred Prayer Circle meets between services to connect with other team members for prayer and meditation.

Are you interested in joining the Sacred Prayer Circle?

Recruiting occurs twice a year in the Spring and Fall. Volunteers attend a training session to prepare them for holding sacred space for others in their private prayer practice. Check the calendar for the next workshop date. For more information, email Rev. Meemie Lohmueller or call her at 919-832-8324, Ext. 110.
