Each year, Unity communities around the world hold the Burning Bowl Ceremony—a powerful spiritual practice of release and renewal that helps us let go of what no longer serves us and make room for the divine light of new beginnings. Unity of the Triangle invites you to join our warm, inclusive spiritual community for this sacred ritual as we step into 2026 with clarity, intention, and peace.
Rooted in ancient purification traditions and embraced by Unity for over a century, the Burning Bowl Ceremony offers a safe, meaningful way to transform limiting thoughts, habits, and experiences into wisdom, freedom, and inner light. It is one of our most beloved services of the year.
What Is the Burning Bowl Ceremony?
The Burning Bowl Ceremony is a time-honored Unity ritual designed to help you release old patterns and open to divine guidance. The ritual uses the cleansing symbolism of fire to let go of whatever you want to leave behind—fear, stress, resentment, outdated stories, or habits that dim your light.
You will be invited to:
- Write down what you wish to release
- Place that paper in the ceremonial flame
- Allow the fire to symbolize spiritual cleansing and renewal
- Create space for your highest good to unfold
- Welcome a new intention and renewed consciousness
This gentle yet powerful practice supports Unity’s path of positive, practical spirituality, reconnecting you with your inner wisdom and the truth that your divine light is always ready to shine more brightly.
A Sacred Morning of Music, Meditation & Renewal
This year’s Burning Bowl Ceremony includes:
Pre-service Guided Meditation
Rev. Neusom Holmes leads a pre-service meditation in the sanctuary before every Sunday service. It’s a beautiful way to wipe away the stresses of the week, and create a sacred space for the service. There is a short break between meditation and service, so you can come for one, either or both events.
Uplifting Music
Soul-nourishing music from Tim Smith, Jay Wright and the Unity Band creates a sacred space for reflection and healing.
Guided Release Ritual
You will be led step-by-step to identify what you are ready to release, and then symbolically surrender it to the flame.
Opening to Insight & Intention
Following the release, we will welcome new inspiration, clarity, and Divine guidance for the year ahead.
