The Sunday Experience with Rev. Michael, The Unity Choir & Black History Month Celebration

February 8 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

WELCOME TO THE SUNDAY EXPERIENCE AT UNITY OF THE TRIANGLE!

It’s the spiritual highlight of the week. Each Sunday we come together around a topic that impacts your every day life, inspiring music, affirmative prayer, and a short meditation.

Sunday Feb 8, 2026

Topic: “Despair is a Failure of Imagination”

With Rev. Michael Gadway

Plus Honoring Black History Month & the Evolution of Black Music in America

Presented by Unity Women of Color & The Unity Choir

This week we continue our a four-part talk series based on the book, “All In This Together.” In his 2025 book, Jack Kornfield shares teachings and stories that are perfect for this moment – stories and wise words that help us remember our basic goodness, free ourselves from fear, and pave a path to a world where we all belong. One way to participate is through the Sunday experience, which offers a unique opportunity for reflection and connection. We invite everyone to discover the Sunday experience and the sense of community it creates. There are multiple ways to get involved in our 4-week book study. We hope you’ll join us for this personal transformation series and invite a friend to book club.

*Note: You do not have to be reading the book to get value from the Sunday talk during the book study weeks!

Black History Month Celebrating The Evolution of Black Music in America, Sundays in February at Unity of the Triangle

Black History Month At Unity

Every Sunday in February, Unity Women of Color are collaborating with The Unity Choir to present the historical significance of Black Music in America. Expect to be moved out of your seats!

Week Two

The Foundation: Spirituals and Work Songs

The earliest forms of Black music in the U.S. were Spirituals, which emerged in the 18th century. As enslaved people struggled through life on plantations, they continued their traditional use of music and instruments. While they were often prohibited from having drums, they used their own bodies to create rhythm which involved rhythmic clapping, chest-slapping, and foot-stomping.  Be prepared for the soulful singing and strong rhythmic accompaniment from the Unity Choir as we celebrate the origins of Gospel music, which remains a cornerstone of the Black church today.
